Gizella Wheatley

Gizella M. Wheatley, 89, of Mansfield passed away April 24, 2015.

She was born November 25, 1925 in Cleveland to Joseph and Helen Grossner Apsolon. Gizella loved baking and retired from Buckeye Bakery after 17 years. Other loves included playing games, gardening, and mostly being with her family, especially around all of the babies. She enjoyed volunteering for many organizations such as at the United Way Day of Caring, Red Hat Society, Conrad House, The Store and with RSVP. Gizella was a very hard worker who taught her family a great work ethic by leading by example.

Survivors include her daughters Christie (Robert) Boyd, Carol (Michael) Chambers, Cathy Cline; 22 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren with two on the way; sister Irene Schultz; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son Jack Wheatley; sister Helen Freel, brothers Frank, Victor, Eugene and Joseph Apsolon; sister-in-law Mary Apsolon; brothers-in-law Roy Freel, Mike Schultz; daughter-in-law Mary Wheatley; son-in-law Jeff Cline.

Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, Tuesday from 1-2 p.m. A funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. with Pastor Paul Staton officiating. Burial will follow in Mansfield Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
