MANSFIELD, Ohio – Young Leaders Institute held its final meeting and luncheon at Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center on April 14. Parents and school representatives attended the ceremony where area non-profit recipients received checks as part of the United Way mini-grant project.

Eight mini-grants totaling $12,000 were distributed to five agencies, including Harmony House, Independent Living Center, Catalyst, The Shelter and Visiting Nurses Association. As part of an educational project, students read submitted grants and made decisions about the mini-grant requests.

Young Leaders is a collaborative effort of Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center and the Mansfield-Richland Area Chamber Foundation. Two sophomore students are selected from Richland County school districts, including Clear Fork, Crestview, Lexington, Lucas, Madison, Mansfield Christian, Mansfield Senior, Ontario, Plymouth, Shelby and St. Peter’s to participate in the monthly meetings.

“Our community service project helped me see the impact we can have in the community,” said one participant. “The Young Leaders group helped me see different aspects of our community and that my character matters,” explained another.

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center, located at the Mid-Ohio Conference Center at 890 W. Fourth St. in Mansfield, provides high quality, cost-effective, specialized academic/ therapy support services and professional development for school districts in the Central Ohio region. These include offering alternative educational options, preschool education and printing services, as well as conference center facilities.
