Maggie Kiser McWhorter, 88, of Mansfield, died April 16, 2015. She was born in Carter, KY on February 26, 1927 to Edna Frazier and Carter Kiser. Maggie went to Carter High School and graduated in 1946 as Valedictorian of her class. On September 20, 1947, she married John D. McWhorter Sr. Together, they had four sons, John David Jr., Richard Allen, Randall Flynn, and Larry Dean. The two divorced in 1965. Maggie worked for The Kroger Company for 28 years, having been at the different local locations including Park Avenue East, Park Avenue West shopping center, and retiring from the Ashland Road location on June 18, 1988. Maggie was a member of VFW 9943 on Grace Street since 1984.

Surviving are her four sons and daughters-in-law, John and Sandy, Richard and Shelley (Winters), Randy and Kathy Sue, and Larry and Jamie, all of Mansfield except Richard and Shelley who have moved to South Carolina; eight grandchildren, Erik, Brian, Michael, David, Suzanne, Ashley, Michelle, and Brandon; five great-grandchildren, Alexis, Elizabeth, Chloe, Alex, and Timothy; sister, Fern Pack of Waverly, OH; and many other cousins and relatives from the Marion and Mansfield area.

Along with her parents, Maggie was preceded in death by her husband, John D. McWhorter, Sr.; sister, Lillian McGuire; and brothers, Mort Kiser and Hord Kiser.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 1 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington Springmill Road, Ontario, conducted by Dr. F.R. “Butch” White. Family and friends are invited to visit for one hour prior to the service, from 12-1 p.m. Burial will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association in Ohio, 5900 Wilcox Place, Dublin, OH 43016.
