MANSFIELD, Ohio – Forty-nine teams competed in the Elementary School Academic Challenge sponsored by and held at the Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center on March 26.

Participating schools included Colonel Crawford, Crestline, Crestview, Discovery School, Lexington, Madison, Mansfield, Mt. Gilead, Northwestern, Plymouth-Shiloh, Sacred Heart (Shelby), Shelby, St. Mary (Mansfield), St. Peter’s, and Wooster.

First place in the fourth grade category included a team from Northwestern. Team members were Gavin Philips, Jacob Wakefield, Jesse Evans, Brooke McNeil, Julia Ours and Brailee Beun.

Second place in the fourth grade category included a team from Crestview. Team members were Abigail Close, Alexis McClain, Hayden Kuhn, John Tackett and Noah Stuart.

First place in the fifth grade included Team B from Wooster. Team members are Zack Keating, Alex Christopher, Madeline Atland, Sean Payment and Alexis Greene.

Second place in fifth grade included Team A from Lexington. Team members are Ethan Peebles, Tanner Holmes, Thomas Secrist, and Cooper Schurig.

First place in the sixth grade was Team A from Crestview. Team members were Bella Wetzel, Catherine Fussner, Ross Kuhn and Izach Littlefield.

Second place in the sixth grade ended in a three-way tie between Colonel Crawford’s Team A, Lexington’s Team A and Wooster.

As part of the evening’s competition, teams of students competed by answering 10 team questions followed by 15 lightening round questions using buzzers. They then rotated to compete with other teams.

Parents, grandparents and siblings, as well as teachers and school administrators, cheered on the teams as they progressed through seven rounds of competition and answered questions ranging from history and current events to math and language arts.

The teams will have a final competition on Tuesday, May 19, with middle school students competing during the school day and elementary teams starting at 5:30 p.m. All the events are held at Mid Ohio ESC.

Mid-Ohio Educational Service Center provides high quality, cost-effective, specialized academic/ therapy support services and professional development for school districts in the Central Ohio Region.
