John R. Cullen, 77, of Mansfield passed away March 31, 2015 at MedCentral Health System.
John was born June 28, 1937 in Mansfield to Joseph and Mary Breen Cullen. He was a 1955 graduate of Mansfield Senior High and a 1961 graduate of Ohio University where he was a member of Theta Chi Fraternity.
John was a member of the Mansfield Power Squadron and was one a few men to get a perfect score on the national N test. He was married to Cheryl Weber from January 16, 1965 until the present. John worked for Sprint for 30 years, was a member of the Owls, Elks, Amvets, 3rd and 4th Degree for the Knights of Columbus, and a life-long member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years Cheryl Cullen; children John “2-E” (Christine) Cullen of Highlands Ranch, CO, Rene “Minnie” (Martin) Prince of Fairfield, CT, Chad “Ralphie” (Genevieve) Cullen of New Orleans, LA; grandchildren Caroline and Isabelle Cullen, Lily, Sophie and Emma Prince; grand-dogs Charlie and Otis Cullen; sisters Jean Cullen, Joann Sunnucks, Mary Phelps; many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother Paul Cullen
Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West, Thursday from 6-9 p.m. with a vigil service at 6 p.m. A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Friday at the funeral home with Deacon Terry Philpott officiating. John’s family has requested that casual attire be worn by all. Burial will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Msgr. Dunn Foundation, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
