James Eugene “Jim” Jones, 83 of Galion passed away Monday evening, March 30, 2015 at The Ohio State Medical Center in Columbus following injuries he received in a recent auto accident.
He was born June 1, 1931 in Miverva and was the son of Okey and Agnes (Bittner) Jones. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Virginia Lee “Ginger” (Frey) Jones who he married on August 9, 1952.
He was a 1949 graduate of Galion High School and proudly served his county in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Jim was a welder for 40 years and worked at Allsteel, Peabody Galion and McClain Industries. Jim also owned and operated Jim’s Trenching in Galion and worked part-time after retirement at Dinkmar of rural Galion.
He enjoyed fishing, watching grandchildren’s sports, sitting on the back porch and watching birds, nature and animals. Jim was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan, loved going places with his best friend Charlie Burris who passed a few years ago and going for early morning coffee with the guys at Burger King.
He is survived by his children, Kristi Keesee of Galion, Tami Stepp of Toledo and Lynne (Bill) Keesey of Galion; his grandchildren, Kendra Keesee, Kent (Lyndsey) Keesee, Clay (Devin Call) Keesey, Taylor (Kyle) Kelso and Issac Stepp and his faithful companion, Shotzie their German Shepherd.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a son-in-law, Kenneth R. Keesee; his sisters, Mae Bowshier and Donna Humbert and his grandparents and uncle who raised him, Emmerson and Minnie Bittner and Eugene Bittner.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, April 2, 2015 at the Richardson Davis Chapel of Snyder Funeral Home, 218 South Market St., Galion, Ohio 44833. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, April 3, 2015 at Grace Point/Galion Free Methodist Church, 683 Portland Way North, Galion, with Rev. Paul Walter officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project or Crawford County Humane Society in care of the funeral home.
