MANSFIELD, Ohio–The Mansfield Division of Police is actively investigating two separate shootings that occurred on Sunday, March 29 in Mansfield.
The shootings, one which occurred at 111 Wood Street in the early morning hours and another at 747 South Main Street (Baku Grotto Hall) which occurred later in the evening, are not believed to be related at this time.
On Sunday at approximately 12:58 a.m., officers responded to Wood Street after receiving a 911 call of a shooting. At the scene, officers found a 28-yea-old white male in an upstairs apartment, suffering from gunshot wounds.
At about the same time, officers were advised of a second shooting victim in the area of 90 Blymyer Avenue. Upon responding to that location, officers located a male 16-year-old male, also, suffering from a gunshot wound.
Both shooting victims are believed to be involved in the incident at 111 Wood Street and were transported to Ohio Health-MCM for treatment, where they remain. While investigating the incident, three hand guns were located, with two of them listed as stolen.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time, however, the motive leading up to the shooting, appears to be robbery. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Detective David Scheurer at (419) 755-9748.
The second shooting call was received at approximately 11:46 p.m. and initially came in as a “large fight” call at the Baku Grotto Hall located at 747 South Main Street. While responding to the fight call, officers received additional information advising that “shots had been fired” at that location.
Once on scene, officers found a very large crowd of people in the parking lot with sporadic fighting occurring amongst dozens of people. Upon seeing officers, the large crowd dispersed and many of those involved in the fighting fled the area.
Upon further investigation, evidence indicated that shots had been fired and someone was possibly injured. A short time later, Mansfield Police Dispatch received information from Ohio Health-MCM that a 27-year-old black male had arrived at the emergency room suffering from a gunshot wound to his arm.
That investigation is ongoing and no indication as to what led to the shooting has been determined at this time. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call Detective Frank Parrella at (419) 755-9470.
Captain Shari Robertson advised that these two incidents are isolated events and that charges are pending the investigation outcomes. Additional information and updates will be released as they become available.
