Al Strong, 78, of Whitehall, died Friday, March 27, 2015 at his home. Born October 8, 1936 in Mansfield, he was the son of Erwina (Leathers) and Otto A. Strong, Sr. Al was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and was very proud of his time in the service. At the age of 75, he retired from Central Aluminum in Columbus after 25 years of service. Al spent much of his time tinkering around and enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach, Buckeye Lake, or National Trails.
He is survived by his wife, Beulah (Butler) Strong of Columbus; sons, Gregory P. Butterbaugh and Timothy R. (Cherie Penny) Butterbaugh, both of Denver and John A. Strong of California; daughter, Lori L. Strong of California; grandchildren, Travis R. (Stephnie) Scott, Spencer P. Scott, Alisha K. Anable, and Jeffrey A. Brott; great grandchildren, Gabriel Kraft, Gavin Anable, Bryce Anable, Paul Scott, Kael Scott, Christopher Scott, and Anna Scott; sisters, Margie (Frank) Musgrove and Maryann Grinold; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Jason Strong; daughter, Barbara K. Scott; and son-in-law, Harvey K. Scott.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2015 at 2 p.m. at the Diamond St. Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield, conducted by Pastor Mark Barth. Friends may call prior to the service from 12-2 p.m. at the funeral home. Military services conducted by the Richland County Joint Veterans Burial Squad will follow the service.
