D. Eileen Prefling, 93, of Perrysville died Monday morning, March 23, 2015 in The Good Shepherd Home in Ashland following a brief illness.
Eileen was born March 8, 1922 in Alexandria and was the daughter of the late Ralph and Chloris (Fisher) Hammond. She was a 1940 graduate of Alexandria High School and spent most of her life in the Perrysville area. On May 15, 1943 she married George Prefling and he preceded her in death on Dec. 30, 1992. Although she was primarily a homemaker, she had also worked for a short time in the cafeteria of Mansfield Plumbing Products. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, Perrysville, the VFW Post 8586 Ladies Auxiliary, and was the first member of the Mohican Lanes Bowling Hall of Fame, Loudonville inducted in 1997. She loved her bowling, golfing and working in the yard, listening to her police scanner, and was an avid fan of The Ohio State University football and basketball teams.
Eileen is survived by her son, James A. Prefling of Huntsville, AL; two grandchildren: Paula (Richard) Case of Woodstock, GA, and Shannon Prefling of Biloxi, MS; four great-grandchildren: Zach, Lauren, Anna, and Ashley Case; a half-brother, Glenn Hammond of Newark; a nephew, Ron (Laurie) Kunkle of Akron; and numerous nieces and nephews in Arizona and Pennsylvania. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, two brothers: Harry Edgar and Carl “Jake” Hammond; a step-brother, Bob Campbell; and her step-mother, Ruth Hammond.
Funeral services will be held Friday, March 27 at 11 a.m. in Lindsey Funeral Home, Loudonville with Rev. Bege Wiegman, officiating. Burial will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Alexandria. Friends may call Friday, one hour prior to the funeral, from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in the funeral home.
