LEXINGTON: Joann Piasick found grand inspiration in the Lord’s creation. With her beloved husband Edward in the driver’s seat, she’d navigate their family to nearly every state, to most every US National Park, and to the uttermost reach of the continent. She treasured the beauty found in nature, and loved the opportunity to communicate it through her art.
Joann passed away Thursday afternoon March, 12, 2015 in OhioHealth MedCentral Mansfield Hospital. She was 79.
Born Joann Carol Michalski in Mansfield on Christmas Day 1935 to parents Sylvester and Elizabeth (Weingartner) Michalski, she was graduated from St. Peter’s High School and remained a lifelong area resident.
Joann married Edward Peter Piasick on September 7, 1963, had worked at Lumbermans, spent a year in Chicago where she studied and taught ballet, and left her career as a legal secretary to focus her time and energy on raising their daughters.
Inspired by nature, she was an artist who ejoyed painting with oils. She worked part-time in the business office of St. Peter’s School, and full-time poured herself into loving her daughters and granddaughters.
She is survived by her daughters Jeanne M. Piascik of Orlando, FL and Peggy & Ken Jordan of Lexington; granddaughters Hope Jordan and Faith Jordan; a sister and brother-in-law Rita & Jay Knapp of Seattle, WA; sisters-in-law Margaret “Marge” Michalski of Monticello, IN, Hattie Gray, and Dorothy Ladika both of Parma Heights, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Her beloved husband Edward preceded her in death on October 26, 2007. A daughter was still born. Also deceased are brothers Robert (Jane) Michalski and Charles Michalski.
Her family will receive friends Monday, March 16, 2015 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where a Christian Prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. in Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Avenue celebrated by the Very Reverend Father Nelson Beaver. Burial will follow in Prince of Peace Cemetery.
Contributions in Joann’s memory to Ovarian Cancer Research Fund may be made at the funeral home.
