COLUMBUS, Ohio — Members of the Ohio Senate today voted to approve legislation that seeks to conform Ohio’s tax code with recent changes to the federal tax code. Senate Bill 2 would save taxpayers nearly $22 million in fiscal year 2015 and would help prevent complications when Ohioans file their tax returns.

“Senate Bill 2 will protect Ohioans’ ability to take advantage of the deductions and credits to which they are entitled,” Obhof said. “This will ensure that the necessary changes are in place as we go through the current tax filing season, and it will help Ohioans’ keep more of their hard-earned money.”

Lawmakers passed similar legislation in 2012 and 2013; however, changes to the federal tax code were made in December 2014 that necessitated the passage of Senate Bill 2 in order to avoid conflicting state and federal tax rules.

The Ohio Senate also recognized Urban Meyer and the Ohio State University football team for their historic national championship season. The team was presented with a Senate Resolution by Senate members representing Franklin County.
