David Russell Solomon passed away Monday afternoon, February 9, 2015 in his Johnsville home. He was 73.
He was born July 16, 1941 in Loudonville to parents Harvey A. & Lois (Russell) Solomon. After high school Dave proudly honored his country by joining the US Navy where he served in Cuba as a Seabee. He worked for Gorman Rupp for over 38 years until his retirement in 2003.
Dave was an avid collector of all types of things, but was better known for his witty sense of humor and infectious laughter. A simple trip to the grocery could last hours for Dave, he took a genuine interest in everyone he spoke with and he could strike up a conversation with anyone. Dave enjoyed garage sales, Amish Country flea markets, and mushroom hunting in Michigan. Over the years, he and his wife Linda went on many adventures with their good friends Gary & Penny.
Dave was a member of Fusion Ministries (formerly Lexington Community Church).
He is survived by his wife Linda (Meredith) Solomon of Johhnsville, whom he married April 16, 1988; his children (& spouses) Amy & Greg Genter of Mansfield, David & Lisa Solomon of Medina, Jenny Solomon of Cincinnati, and Josh Jarvis of Huron; eight grandchildren Chelsea, Alese, Colton, Sydney, Rachael, David, Brinkley, & Addison; his in-laws Richard & Maxine Meredith of Johnsville, and a brother-in-law Robert & Vickie Meredith of Fredericktown.
In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his sister Norma Schafer and his brother Harvey Solomon.
His family will receive friends 3-7 p.m. Friday, February 13, 2015 in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home where a funeral service honoring Dave’s life will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday and friends are invited to call the hour prior. Pastor Jim Streib will officiate and burial will follow in Shauck Cemetery in Johnsville with American Legion Post # 535 of Bellville performing military honors.
