Royal Glenn Freed, 75, of Butler passed away Saturday evening, February 7, 2015 at home surrounded by his loving family.
The son of Glenn R. and Martha (Laribee) Freed, Royal was born July 21, 1939 in Mansfield. He graduated from Butler High School. On April 12, 1968 Royal married Joanne Miller.
Beginning in 1973, Royal served for the Butler Police Department and as a Lieutenant Deputy Sheriff for Richland County. For 25 years he worked for Joyce Buick in the service department and also worked in the Security Division for The Ohio State University-Mansfield Campus.
A 32nd Degree Mason, Royal was a member of the Bellville Masonic Lodge #376, Richland County Scottish Rite, Mansfield Baku Grotto, Kentucky Colonel, was a life member of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of Columbus, and was a former member of the Butler-Worthington Township Fire & Rescue Department.
In his younger years, Royal enjoyed racing as well as hunting and fishing. A big man with a big heart, Royal’s wisdom and knowledge was continually shared with his family. A family man, he taught his children and grandchildren the value of a good work ethic.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 46 years Joanne Freed of Butler; daughter Sherry (Tom) Kemp of Butler; son Bryan (Nancy) Freed of Easley, South Carolina; grandchildren Paige (Brandon) Peters and Brynne (John) Morris; great-great grandchildren Wyatt Lee Peters, Alina Ivory Morris and on the way-Willow Lynne Peters; sisters-in-law Ruth (James) Kenison and Jean (Daniel) Weirich.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening February 10, 2015 from 4-7 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home where Masonic services performed by the Bellville Masonic Lodge #376 will begin at 7 p.m. Visitation will continue at the funeral home, Wednesday from 10-11 a.m. Funeral services will begin at 11am with the Rev. Dr. Michael Stine officiating.
