Maynard Clair Hopkins

Maynard Clair Hopkins, 97, of Mansfield, Ohio, passed away February 5, 2015 in Ashland, Ohio. He was born on April 27, 1917 in Upper Sandusky, Ohio, but moved to Galion with his family at age four. 

His father was a successful Galion businessman. Maynard joined his father in Hopkins Music Company and eventually became CEO. He enjoyed boating, both power and sail, and built his own speedboat. He was a member of the US Power Squadrons, where he formed active, lifelong friendships. He was also a lifetime member of the Catawba Island Club and boated frequently on Lake Erie. Maynard and Peg loved traveling in the US and internationally, eating out, and spending time with family. He liked keeping up with current events and was an avid reader of newspapers and magazines. 

He is survived by children John E. (and Joyce) Hopkins, Gordon P. (Margrit) Hopkins, Richard A. (Donna) Hopkins; step-children Henry H. (and Diana) Geary III, and Nancy Jo (and Patrick) Butler; 17 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret M. “Peg” Hopkins; his first wife, Esther A. Hopkins; parents, Cecil L. Hopkins and Fannie Doris Hopkins; and sisters, Wilma Jean Roush and Marjorie Delores Court.

The family expresses their appreciation to all those who provided comfort and friendship to Maynard during his life and especially during his illness. No memorial service is planned. The burial of his ashes and a celebration of his life will occur at a later date. Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
