M. Pat (McFarland) Guertin, 90, of Galion passed away Saturday afternoon, January 31, 2015 at Magnolia Terrace in Galion. 

She was born February 11, 1924 in Lima and was the daughter of Clarence and Gladies (McClane) Harley. 

On October 3, 1946 she married Mac McFarland and enjoyed 55 years together until his passing October 30, 2001. Pat is also preceded in death by her brother, Jack Harley; her sisters, Rosemary Heiby and Ruthie Harley. 

She was a 1942 graduate of Crestline High School and went to the Mansfield General School of Nursing. Pat also attended Ashland University and The Ohio State University from where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in nursing. During her working career, she was a nurse for PPG in Crestline, Dr. Switzer and was a nursing supervisor at Galion Community Hospital for many years. The quote “She was always a nurse,” was a perfect description as she would help the nuns at St. Joseph Catholic Church and all the people that surrounded her. After her retirement from nursing in 1996, Pat went to work at Flower Cart flower shop and volunteered with the TWIG at the Galion Hospital. Pat and Mac had a place in Bradenton Beach, Fla. and would spend their winters there. After Mac’s passing she met Eugene Guertin and Pat married him June 19, 2010 and he preceded her in death April 8, 2012. 

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Galion, Galion Women of the Moose, Chapter #177 and was very active with the Galion B.P.O. Elks Galion Lodge #1191, Emblem Club. Pat enjoyed playing cards and golfing and was the women’s champion at Valley View Golf Course. 

Pat is survived by daughters Ann McFarland Burke and husband Mike of Longmeadow, MA and Jean Bodkins and husband Mike of Galion; four grandchildren, Allison & Andrew Burke, Sarah (Adam Hurt) Bodkins and Hayley Bodkins; great-granddaughter Brodie Hurt; sister Norene Carr of Mansfield; brothers Thomas Harley of Crestline and Donald (Pat) Harley of Crestline; special niece Alinda Dickinson Wasner of MI; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, her special friends “The Golden Girls” at Sandpiper Resort and many friends locally. 

To honor Pat’s wishes, she has donated her body to The Ohio State University School of Medicine. 

A Memorial Mass will be held 12 noon, Saturday, March 7, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 135 North Liberty St. Galion with Father John Miller as celebrant. A celebration of life will follow at the Galion Elks Lodge 1191, 212 Harding Way East, Galion.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Catholic Church, HomeCare Matters & Hospice or the United Cerebral Palsy in care of the funeral home.
