Helene T. McCambridge, 85, passed away January 25, 2015 at her home.
Helene was born June 4, 1929 in Chicago to Henry and Frances Crawley Gilbert and moved to Mansfield as a young girl. She graduated from St. Peter’s High School and worked at Woolworth and Richland Bank.
On April 7, 1953 she married Paul McCambridge. When her four children were young she started a daycare from her home. Later in life she began her new career as a nurses aid first in the psychiatric ward at Mansfield General and then as a home hospice aid for MedCentral. Upon her retirement, she began an 11 year journey taking care of her husband who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. She took care of him 10 of his last 11 years at home. She was amazing and he loved being close to her.
For those who had the pleasure and good fortune of knowing her will remember what a wonderful, loving, caring, peaceful woman she was. Her family was her life.
Survivors include daughters Maureen Love of Galion, Kathleen McCambridge of Orlando, Florida, Patti (Brett) Burkey of Wooster; grandchildren: Christopher (Tina) McClellan, Matthew (Misty) McClellan, Amber (Derrick) McCambridge, Julia Burkey, Gretchen Burkey; great-grandchildren: Asia, Blake, Braydon, Kaden, Keisha, Shelbie, Tanner, Amiya and Aaliyah on the way, and her and Paul’s companions dog Foxy and cat Kitty.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her loving husband Paul; son Kevin; brothers Robert Gilbert and Bill Moody.
Friends may call at Herlihy-Chambers Funeral Home, 173 Park Avenue West on Saturday, February 7 from 2-4 p.m. Then a memorial service will be held 4pm at the funeral home with Deacon Terry Philpott officiating. Burial will take place at a later date.
