CLEVELAND, Ohio (Updated 4:12 a.m. Feb 1)– The National Weather Service winter storm update now includes possible freezing rain. The storm will bring heavy snow and a wintry mix today into early Monday. Snow will become heavy at times this afternoon and continue into Sunday night as a low front tracks across central Ohio.
Warmer air pulled north, ahead of the approaching low pressure system, will cause snow to mix with freezing rain or sleet and possibly change over to rain across central Ohio.
Local counties impacted include Ashland, Crawford, Marion and Richland.
Precipitation will transition back to snow on Sunday night and taper off from west to east on Monday morning.
A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until noon on Monday with snow accumulations of 5 to 9 inches and some ice accumulation. The heaviest snow will occur this afternoon through midnight, ending Monday morning.
Wind gusts of up to 30 mph will cause some blowing snow and reduced visibilities.
Hazardous travel conditions are expected due to significant snow accumulations and greatly reduced visibilities. Motorists should use extreme caution if travel is unavoidable.
