Robert E. Gordon, 93, of Crestline, died Tuesday, January 20, 2015 at Signature Health Care of Galion. He had been in failing health the past two years.

Bob was born in Deshler on August 24, 1921 to the late Raymond F. and Agnes (Konzen) Gordon. He married Lee M. Vogt on October 19, 1946 and she survives him. 

Bob sang in the Crestline Men’s Glee Club. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline. He sang in the St. Joseph Men’s Choir for many years. He was a member of the choir when they traveled to the Vatican and sang for the then Pope John Paul II. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Msg. Leo W. Frye Council #2642, Crestline and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Pope John XXIII Assembly, Bucyrus.

He had worked for ten years at Faultless Rubber in Ashland as a supervisor. Retiring in 1986, he worked for seventeen years at the former Geauga Plastics as the Plant Engineer. Bob served in the U.S. Army as a Corporal, serving in World War II as a Forward Observer in Canon Company. He was a veteran of the Battle of The Bulge. He farmed one hundred acres while he was working. Gardening was a passion for Bob. His forte was growing tomatoes. As a farmer and engineer he could make anything and fix anything on the farm.

He is survived by his three sons and two daughters, Sharon and Michael Hinkel, Gahanna, Ed and Brenda Gordon, Grand Blanc, MI. Kay and Mark Schreck, Ontario, Thomas Gordon, Bucyrus, Ron and Sue Gordon, Ashland, fourteen grandchildren; Mindy, Vicki, Timothy, Jennifer, Jacqueline, Natalie, Eric, Todd, Ashley, Jason, Kevin, Steven, Tyler and Ryan, fifteen great-grandchildren, his two brothers and three sisters, Helen Rita Neiling, Deshler, Don Gordon, Piqua, Sister Madelyn Marie Gordon, R.S.M., Fremont, Clara Pittelkow, WI, Walter and Ramona Gordon, Findlay. 

He was preceded in death by his daughter Joan Marie Knell and his sisters, Mary Haffner and Catherine Gerschutz. 

Friends may call Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. A Vigil Service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday. Visitation will also be held at the funeral home from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, prior to Mass. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Saturday, January 24, 2015 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Crestline. Burial will follow in St Joseph Cemetery. Military Honors will be given at the graveside by the United States Army and the Galion Crestline Veterans Military Funeral Detail.
