L. Gayle Hopkins, 91, of Mansfield passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at home surrounded by his loving and devoted family following an extended illness.
The son of Leland and Vera (Reynolds) Hopkins, Gayle was born February 14, 1923 in Huron County and was graduated from Shelby High School in 1941. On December 11, 1942 he married Norma (Hostetler).
Gayle worked at Westinghouse as a mechanical engineer and spent his last working years as a realtor. He loved fishing with his family. From Florida to California, for 12 years, Gayle and Norma enjoyed traveling across the United States.
Along with his devoted wife of 72 years, Norma Hopkins, Gayle is survived by two daughters Gaye Leithauser of Chillicothe and Teri Schaefer of Bellville; five grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren; sister Shirley Bloom of Shelby; numerous extended family.
Along with his parents he was preceded in death by grandson Thomas Richard Schaefer; two sisters and one brother; son-in-law George Schaefer.
A memorial gathering will be held Monday, January 5, 2015 from 2-4 p.m. in the Bellville Snyder Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to MedCentral Hospice may be made through the funeral home.
