GALION, Ohio – The southeast side of Galion has experienced multiple power outages over the past two months due to the aging Dawsett Substation, which can’t handle the new higher voltage of the recent electric upgrade. The solution is to rebuild that substation.

“Today we hope to complete a set of improvements on the southeast side of the city that will alleviate one-third of the load to be taken off the lower voltage substation [Dawsett Substation],” said Mayor Tom O’Leary.

By Monday, said O’Leary, the city will receive step-down transformers that will be installed by the end of this year. The installation will strengthen that network in a way that will facilitate electricity use in that area and improve reliability through most of 2015 until the substation can be rebuilt.

The cost of the interim fix will be $25,000 – $30,000. A crew from Shelby will provide extra manpower “to insure they get the first piece done by the Christmas holiday,” said O’Leary.
