Plymouth High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) held their fourth annual cancer awareness night on Friday evening, Dec. 19, at the Plymouth boys basketball game versus Mapleton. The event was titled “Color Out Cancer: Superheros Fighting Against Cancer.”

The event’s purpose was to raise money and to honor those who have been affected by cancer. Two weeks prior to the event, a variety of shirt colors were sold. Different color shirts were chosen by supporters according the the cancer that had impacted their lives, hence the name “Color Out Cancer.” All proceeds from the shirt sales will go to the American Cancer Society.

The “Color Out Cancer” event consisted of a variety of activities from the making of superhero capes by fans, “Memorial and Survivor Wall” and a special guest that beat her fight with cancer:  Liddia Damon.

Damon, A 7-year-old survivor of Hemophagocytic Lymphohistiocystosis cancer was an honorary cheerleader for the night. She cheered the Plymouth boys basketball team to a win over Mapleton and touched the hearts of all in attendance at the game friday night.

The FCCLA ended their event with a miracle minute where FCCLA members collected donations from the fans to add to their donation to the American Cancer Society. At the end of the event FCCLA Members announced that through miracle minute and shirt sales, they had raised $1,343.74 for the American Cancer Society. The members and their adviser would like to thank everyone for their support and helping to be the superheros fighting to “Color Out Cancer.”
