The Richland County Sheriff’s Office announced awards presented to Sheriff Steve Sheldon’s staff Saturday evening, Dec. 20, at the FOP hall. Sheldon noted he is very proud of all the men and women who work at the Sheriff’s Office.
Deputy of the Year was awarded to Deputy Regnald Ganzhorn for his proficiency in his duties and manner, as well as his dedication to duty.
Supervisor of the Year was awarded to Sgt. Mike Viars for dedication, leadership, outstanding work and professional service to the organization and the public.
Correction Officer of the Year was awarded to Scott Aldridge for his positive attitude, high level of integrity, and leadership skills.
Correction Supervisor of the Year was awarded to Lt. Katina Douglas for her qualities as a leader and dedicated professional.
Mounted Deputy of the Year was awarded to Dan Thompson for his dedication to serving the public through the Sherriff’s Mounted Unit as well as his commitment to the organization.
Special Deputy of the Year was awarded to Dean Myers for utmost dedication, self-initiative, outstanding work and professional service to the organization and the public.
Civilian Employee of the Year was awarded to Jill Lewis for consistent service with the utmost professionalism, positive attitude, and dedication to duty.
A plaque was presented to Mike Dzurilla in appreciation of assistance provided to the
Richland County Sheriff’s Office.
A Certificate of Merit was awarded to C.O. Larry Pennywitt for exceptional performance of duty during an incident with a hostile inmate.
A Letter of Appreciation was awarded to C.O. Brittney Bartolomea for preventing the conveyance of contraband into the county jail.
A Letter of Appreciation was also awarded to Deputy Charles White for his assistance in apprehending a suspect.
A Lifesaving Award was presented to Deputy Brent Broom for exceptional performance and saving a human life by performing CPR and coordinating others that were present.
Lifesaving Awards were also presented to C.O. Megan Rush and C.O. Melissa Lapeer for their exceptional performance and active roles in saving the life of an inmate that had attempted suicide.
Unit Citations were awarded to the Detective Bureau, including Sgt. Gordon, Duane Kilgore, Joey Lewis, Pat Smith, and Stacy Wendling-Dittrich for meticulous and proficient service for investigation and resolution of several major crime cases committed against citizens of Richland County during 2014.
Office Citations were awarded to: Captain Sweat, Lieutenant Zehner, Sergeant Gunder, Sergeant Nicholson, Deputy Peters, Deputy Caltrider, Deputy Mccartney and Deputy Knee .
Unit Awards were presented to: Deputy Frazier, Sergeant Boyd, and Sergeant Viars.
