COLUMBUS, Ohio — Maj. Gen. Deborah A. Ashenhurst, Ohio’s 81st adjutant general, will leave the position of Ohio adjutant general effective Jan. 10, 2015, and continue her service at the National Guard Bureau in Washington D.C. as a special assistant.
As Ohio’s adjutant general, Ashenhurst commands the Ohio National Guard and the military readiness of the Ohio Militia. The Ohio National Guard consists of the Ohio Army National Guard, Ohio Air National Guard, Ohio Military Reserve, and Ohio Naval Militia, totaling more than 18,000 personnel.
“The men and women of the Ohio National Guard are among the best this nation has to offer. I am very proud to have served with them,” said Ashenhurst.
Ashenhurst was the first female general officer for the Ohio Army National Guard and Ohio’s first female adjutant general. Serving in the Ohio National Guard since 1978, she has held numerous staff and command positions throughout the organization.
