MANSFIELD, Ohio – The residents of Dayspring Assisted Living Center got a special Christmas treat on Friday morning thanks to a visit from Sherman Elementary School.

A group of 31 third graders in the school’s Leadership Group stopped by Dayspring to sing Christmas carols, deliver Christmas ornaments and cards, and share a snack of chips and soda with the residents. The afternoon was sponsored in part by Graham Automall.

According to Kevin Stone, the group’s advisor, the Leadership Group stops by Dayspring a few times a year to meet the residents, sing songs and bring gifts.

“They set a good example for the other kids in the building,” said Stone.

Also stopping by Dayspring on Friday was Miss Ohio Mackenzie Bart and her puppet, Roxy. Bart entertained the students and residents with her ventriloquism talent, singing her trademark “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious” as well as the popular song “Let It Go” from the Disney movie, “Frozen.”

Bart also sang a holiday classic, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer,” which is a favorite song of third grader Jacob Mullins. Mullins emulated his favorite reindeer on Friday with a set of antlers and a red nose.

“I wish I could be Rudolph, that would be fun,” said Mullins. “I really like the singing.”

Dayspring’s residents said they very much enjoyed the students’ singing, as well as their bags of treats and the company they provided during lunch. Resident Woody Hill said he thought their singing was “excellent.”

“I just like Christmas carols period,” he said with a laugh.

Overall, the afternoon was a great way to head into the holidays. Ontario Mayor Randy Hutchinson noted he always enjoys seeing the students perform for the residents.

“They did a fabulous job, and they’re certainly in the festive spirit,” he said.
