MANSFIELD — Four-legged family members can have their pictures taken with Santa, too. The Humane Society of Richland County (HSRC) will host its annual Santa & Paws fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at Prospect Park, 542 Marquis Ave.

Photos are $10 and all proceeds benefit HSRC.

“We used to work with PetSmart, but this is our second year of having the event independently,” humane society supervisor Missy Houghton said. “It was a lot bigger last year than we thought it was going to be.”

There will be a bake sale held in conjunction with the event — “We’ll have people treats and dog treats,” Houghton promised — as well as a raffle. Local veterinarian Laurie Hickox will be there to answer questions.

“The only thing we ask is that pets be on a leash or in a carrier,” Houghton said.

The event is one of a handful of fundraisers the humane society hosts each year. The annual Strut Your Mutt festival is the biggest.

“We just had our 12th Strut Your Mutt,” Houghton said. “Then we do some smaller fundraisers throughout the year.

Information on how to adopt a pet will be available Saturday. Houghton said the local humane society has about 50 cats and 20 dogs available.

“I’ve got eight (pets) at home, five cats and three dogs,” Houghton said. “We will probably get our two little dogs pictures taken Saturday.

“It’s a good time and it’s for a great cause.”
