GALION – It is said that to whom much is given, much is expected. In a small community like Galion, it takes everyone working together to help those less fortunate than us. Prior to the start of a district-wide in-service on Oct. 24, Galion City School District teachers and staff contributed non-perishable items for a food drive to support the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission.
“The Food Service department tries to organize a district-wide community project at least once a year,” Food Service Supervisor Jacki Corona said. “We have done this specific project previously and received a great response from the staff, and this year was no different.”
Thanks to the generosity of the teachers and staff, the district was able to deliver 100 items to the staff at the Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission. The organization provides many services to Galion residents in need, and has had a long-standing partnership with the district to provide a weekend meal program for students in Galion.
“On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to personally thank the Food Service department for organizing a successful community service project,” Superintendent Mark Stefanik said. “Ohio Heartland Community Action Commission is a vital resource in Galion because it directly provides assistance to families of our students, and I am proud of the staff for showing their generosity.”
