Citizens are invited to join the Mansfield community for the third Social Justice Event on Thursday, Dec. 4 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Richland County Children’s Services, 731 Scholl Rd, Mansfield, in the Futty Training Room.

There is no fee, but a $10 donation is requested to cover lunch expenses, which will be collected during the morning registration. The goal for this event is to break down barriers between members of the community challenged by the issues to be discussed.

The workshops will be interactive and will provide an opportunity for all points of view to be expressed. Citizens are asked to join in the discussion and contribute to the solution.

Events and topics scheduled: 

8:30 a.m.:  Registration and light breakfast provided by Blackbird Bakery and Relax, It’s Just Coffee.

9 a.m. – 10:30 a.m.:  “Diversity,” moderated by Diane Ottolenghi, MSW; discussion to focus on the topics of race, sexual identity and persons with other abilities

10:45 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.:  “Community Relations,” moderated by Bill Baker; discussion to focus on the topics of addiction, mental health and homelessness.

12:15 p.m. – 12:45 p.m.:  Lunch, catered by Doc’s Deli.

12:45 p.m. – 2:45 p.m.:  “Poverty,” moderated by Deanna West-Torrence; discussion to focus on poverty as the root cause of social injustice and its impact on the community.
