LEXINGTON:  Mercedes Medwid, 91, of Lexington passed away Friday afternoon November 7, 2014 in OhioHealth Kobacker House in Columbus.

Born May 14, 1923 in Stow Township of Allegheny County, Pennsylvania to George and Otillia (Yenkee) Graff, she was graduated from Stow Township High School in 1941.

On February 15, 1947 she married Andrew Medwid, and they moved their family to the Mansfield area in 1957.

Mercedes had worked as a teller with Richland Bank and volunteered her time with MedCentral Hospital. She was a founding member of Resurrection Parish and remained an active member throughout her life. Mercedes enjoyed friendships at the Mansfield YMCA, bridge groups, and the Lexington Library Book Club.

She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law Grady J. & Cynthia Medwid of Lexington and Michael A. & Margo Medwid of Columbus, daughters and sons-in-law Susan A. & Andy Francis of Kiawah Island, SC and Janet A. & Joe Barr of Dublin; grandchildren Andrew & Katie Medwid of Ontario, Jennifer & Nick Dean of Columbus, Eric Medwid of Columbus, Beth & Craig Krenzel of Dublin, David (fiancée Kate Brown) Medwid of Columbus, Suzanne Medwid of Denver, CO and Dr. Robert & Melissa Gorsline of Columbus; and great grandchildren (the very lights of her life!) Brayden, Ellie, Austin and Colt Krenzel.

She was preceded in death by her husband Andrew Medwid on December 24, 2004, a granddaughter Sara Medwid-Gorsline on November 26, 2005, a brother George Graff and sisters Marie Laquinta and Agnes Griscom.

The Medwid family will receive friends Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 from 3 to 7 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered Thursday at 2 p.m. in Resurrection Parish, 2600 Lexington Avenue, celebrated by the Very Reverend Father Nelson Beaver. Burial will follow in Lexington Cemetery.

Contributions in Mrs. Medwid’s memory to Nationwide Children’s Hospital Sara Medwid-Gorsline Memorial Fund may be made at the funeral home.
