When we set out to ask our GalionLive readers for their favorite pizza shop, we hoped we would get a few responses. We never expected 75 passionate responses. When we counted it up, the overwhelming favorite was M&S Carry Out and Pizza.
M&S has been a part of the Galion community since 1957. Today, the longtime pizza shop and carryout has collected 611 Facebook page likes and a solid 4.7 out of 5 stars in reviews.
When I gave current owner Rick Hall a call to tell him we would be ordering his pizza pies for our latest installment of Foodie Friday, his friendliness and warmth made it apparent to me why his shop is a community favorite.
This Friday, Galionite and account associate Shawna Layland pick up a classic pepperoni and a deluxe pizza. Rick created the two pizza pies himself for our Friday lunch and the pride of his workmanship popped as soon as we cracked open the boxes.
Our staff has had long discussions about what makes a good pizza and let me tell you, the preferences are as unique as the people themselves. So how does the GalionLive choice stack up? It did not disappoint.
“The crust was my favorite part of this pizza. I could tell it was fresh, and it was the perfect balance between crunchy and chewy,” said staff reporter Brittany Schock. “Between the deluxe and the pepperoni pizza, the traditional pepperoni was my favorite.”
“I enjoy pizza that strikes a good balance between sweet and savory. This hit that sweet spot for me,” she said.
On the other side of the table, staff reporter Dillon Carr chose a sample of the deluxe pizza.
“I liked the deluxe pizza the most. I like having lots of ingredients to mix up the flavor, spice things up a bit,” said Carr.
“I also think they do a good job with the crust and dough. That was first thing I noticed actually. I think it could be a little more crusty, but that’s just being picky,” said Carr.
I found the pizza to be a really well-made pizza. I have to agree that the dough was cooked just right. Rick didn’t spare any toppings on our pizza and they were all fresh.
Bottom line: It was good pizza and I’d personally recommend it.
