Unofficial final election results for the 40 precincts in Crawford County revealed 12,018 voters decided school levies, races and township issues. Results came in a little later than normal because paper ballots from Galion needed to be counted. The Galion precinct lost power about 6:15 p.m. and resumed at 7:30 p.m. forcing the use of paper ballots.
Voters overwhelmingly defeated the Crestline School levy but passed some township issues. In the candidate race Joan Wolfe won the county auditor seat and Judge Sean Leuthold won the Common Pleas Court bench by a wide margin.
The Crestline Schools .75 percent income tax request failed with 738 against the tax and 369 for the tax. The tax was to be used for current expenses.
Crestline schools have been deficit spending and the trend moves the leger into the red by 2017 without additional funding. “We are disappointed the levy did not pass,” said Bradd Stevens, treasurer for the Crestline Village School District. “We will take some time to consider our options.”
In the Crawford County Auditor race Joan Wolfe (R) defeated Leanna Hershey (D) 8,217 to 3,322. “It’s just an honor,” said Wolfe about her victory. Wolfe said there will not be a lot of changes other than a few staff members moving around. The office will continue to move toward paperless.
In the race for Crawford County Common Pleas Judge, Municipal Court Judge Sean Leuthold received 8,392 votes and Magistrate Rob Neff, Jr. received 3,099 votes. The governor will appoint a new municipal court judge to replace Leuthold by February.
The Criminal Justice renewal levy of 2.75 mills for 5 years passed with 7,360 for the levy and 4,459 against. The money will be used for supporting the county criminal justice services.
The Crawford County Council on Aging, Inc. renewal levy of 0.8 mills and an increase of 0.2 mills also passed, 7,722 votes to 4,131 votes. The money raised by the renewal and increase will go toward services for senior citizens throughout Crawford County.
Bucyrus Township renewal of 1 mill for 5 years passed 249 votes to 96 votes. The money will be used for current expenses.
Cranberry Township replacement of 1 mill for 5 years passed 398 to 84. The levy is for current operating expenses.
The Jefferson Township renewal of 3 mills also passed 434 votes to 138. The money will be used to provide fire protection and ambulance services.
