Gordon E. “Jake” Jacobs

Gordon E. “Jake” Jacobs of Mansfield passed away peacefully Wednesday afternoon October 8, 2014 in Ohio Health MedCentral Hospital. He was 89.

Born August 14, 1925 in Dayton, he was the son of John & Letty (Evans) Jacobs. After college, he was employed as an optician and eventually followed the job to the Mansfield area. He worked for over 40 years with the same company (through multiple name changes) and retired from Interstate Optical in 1987.

On October 28, 1961 he married Ruth and together the pair raised two boys. In spare time, Jake enjoyed golfing, watching sports on TV (especially the Cincinnati Reds and the Ohio State Buckeyes) and playing Euchre in various senior centers around town with his wife.

His family will remember him for his witty humor, kind spirit, and his positive outlook on life. Jake knew how to inspire the best in people by being slow to scold and quick to praise.

He was a member of the Church of the Cross in Lexington, Mansfield Liederkranz, and a former member of Lexington-Shelby Elks Lodge #2553.

Jake is survived by his wife Ruth Jacobs of Mansfield; two sons and a daughter-in-law Jim & Martha Jacobs of Chagrin Falls, OH, and Randy Jacobs of Columbus, OH; twin grandchildren Holly Jacobs of Rock Hill, SC and Spencer Jacobs of Chagrin Falls, OH; two nieces Dixie (Jerry) Archer, and Ava (Ken) Laws; and a nephew John (Pam) Jacobs.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers Jim Jacobs and John “Barney” Jacobs.

The Jacobs family will receive friends Saturday, October 11 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. in the Lexington Avenue Snyder Funeral Home, where his funeral service will follow at 12 p.m. Rev. Susan Lausch will officiate and burial will follow in Oak Grove Memorial Park in Lexington, OH.

Snyder Funeral Home is honored to serve Jake’s family and condolences to them may be made at SnyderFuneralHomes.com
