James A. DeWalt, 77, of rural Galion, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, Sept. 26, 2014 at his home.
Jim was born in Crestline, on Feb. 18, 1937 to the late Roger and Ilene (Kress) DeWalt. He married Carole S. Lombard on August 28, 1959 and she survives him.
Jim was a 1955 graduate of Crestline High School and a 1976 graduate of the former Ashland College. He was employed at PPG Industries, Inc. Works #26 as a Tool and Die Engineer and retired in 1993 after 32 years of service. When his four sons were younger he was a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader in Crestline. Jim enjoyed reading and would read six books every two weeks. He also enjoyed fixing anything in his workshop, and working on old cars. At his home, Jim built a bridge over the stream on his and Carole’s property.
He is survived by his wife Carole, his four sons; Michael and Gale DeWalt, Powell, Pat DeWalt, Mt. Gilead, Chris and Pam DeWalt, Galion, Steven DeWalt, Westerville, his six grandchildren, Evan, Amanda, Erin, Jennifer, Nicholas, and Joshua, three great-grandchildren, Ethan, Hailee, and Madison, his brother, Richard and Charlotte DeWalt, Walnut Creek, his two sisters, Janet Buchanan, Crestline, Jane and Ron Claes, Sandusky, a sister-in-law, Linda and Ken Konves, Crestline, numerous nieces and nephews, and his good friends, Eddie Walter, Bill Lamb, Roy Gallentine, and Charlie Inman who was best man in his wedding.
A celebration of life will be celebrated at a later date.
