GALION – The Galion Connections Weekend committee is adding final touches to the plans for the annual all-alumni celebration. The event is designed to bring Galion High School graduates back to share their life experiences and to make connections with Galion students.

Connections Weekend begins Thursday, Sept. 25 with an Old Fashioned Pep Rally, a bon fire and the joint band performance of Galion High School and Galion Alumni Band.

Band Director Brian Treisch said the band will also be playing for homecoming Friday night. “We’ve been playing for homecoming since 1976. Alumni come back and we have some fun – about 45 to 50 will be coming in. This year’s theme is disco music.”

On Friday the events continue with the Galion City Schools Career Day. Former Galion High School graduates come back to their alma mater and share their life experiences and successes with Galion middle school and high school students. Graduates will give advice to students concerning career choices, skill needs and life lessons.

The Homecoming Football Game begins at 7:30 p.m. also at Unkrich Stadium.

Saturday morning kicks off with the annual Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast beginning at 7 a.m. and serving until 11 a.m. at the Galion Intermediate School. Other activities that day include a 5K Walk and games taking place on the Galion City Schools campus.

The weekend culminates with the Hall of Fame Banquet at 6:30 p.m. This year’s inductees are Joice Hayden-Caty, Josephine Tracht, Herbert Miller, Richard Hottenroth, Richard Ekin, Dr. Vincent Cooley, Mark Rodman and Dr. Ty Huggins. These graduates were chosen based on their success in their chosen profession as well as their contribution to society and work in their respective communities. The meal will be catered by Avita Health Care System chefs.

“We have some great honorees,” said Treisch, noting that former students of teacher and honoree Joice Hayden-Caty say that she is the reason they got through college English.

All events are open to the public. For more information go to http://www.galionalumni.com/ or call the district offices at 419-468-3432.
