Richland County Habitat For Humanity annually pauses in their daily mission to eliminate substandard, poverty housing in Richland County to raise funds that will help carry them for the next year. This year, the fundraising event, known as the Hard Hat Gala, takes place on Saturday, Oct. 25 with a Monte Carlo night.
Patrons to the Hard Hat Gala will be able to enjoy an evening of dinner and gambling with funny money at Deer Ridge Golf Course in Bellville.
The organization hopes to raise $10,000 by selling $25 tickets to community members, holding a live and silent auction and raffling prizes. Each ticket sale includes $1,000 in play money andhors d’oeuvres. Anyone willing to volunteer one hour at the event (working a gaming table, no experience required) will receive a free ticket, a $25 value.
“It will be fun because people can learn how to play games they’ve never played before without the risk of losing real money,” said Terrie Bonfiglio, an administrative volunteer for the event.
In addition to the games, a live auction and silent auction will take place for donated items include a handmade dollhouse and a bicycle. The doll house and bike will then be donated to a female and male student from a local yet-to-be-determined elementary school.
Each room of the doll house will be sponsored by various businesses and organizations in Richland County. The dollhouse is being constructed by a Richland Correctional Institution inmate.
Habitat For Humanity is still searching for sponsors. Any organization or business is interested in sponsoring a room of the dollhouse, can call 419-524-8361. Half of the proceeds raised from the raffle will go toward the school and half toward Habitat For Humanity.
Also to be raffled are 12 individual cheerleading bows, which are custom made by Bows by April out of Atlanta, Georgia, and a trip to Las Vegas.
“We’re very excited for the gala. It’s a fun event. The kids really have an opportunity to learn what Habitat For Humanity does for the community because of the doll house and bike they could win,” noted Bonfiglio.
