MANSFIELD – The Richland County Foundation recently awarded grants for this school year to local teachers across Richland County for their creative or supplemental programs not covered by school funding.
The grants are awarded to individual classroom teachers or small teams of classroom teachers with a maximum grant amount of $1,500.
This year, two Abraxas teachers received Education Grants:
Rachel Jamieson, The Page Turner Grant: Igniting a Love for Literacy, $1,339.
Julie Pfeifer, Art Across the Curriculum, $1,491.68.
“I am profoundly grateful to the Margaret Ann Lindley Fund of the Richland County Foundation for their incredible generosity in approving my ‘Page Turner Grant: Igniting a Love for Learning,’” said Rachel Jamieson. “This grant will provide the vital resources needed to engage our underserved students, foster critical literacy skills needed and inspire a lifelong passion for reading.
“This grant will help build a classroom library; it will help our school implement a peer-to peer mentor-reading program and it will engage reluctant readers with material that appeals to them.”
Jamieson explained that the grant will also provide materials, soft lighting and manipulatives for those students with ADHD and Autism.
The goal of the grant is to transform reluctant readers into engaged, lifelong learners by providing access to high interest materials and fostering supportive, community-based reading relationships.
Julie Pfeifer expressed her appreciation to the Richland County Foundation.
“I am so thankful to the Richland County Foundation for their support of the community and my classroom through the RCF Fellows Fund,” she said. “The Richland County Foundation approved funding for my grant ‘Art Across the Curriculum,’ enabling me to utilize various art projects across Algebra, Geometry and Lifeskills to cement understanding through real world connections.
“This will connect math, literacy and career opportunities, allowing for a more rounded understanding of the concepts students are learning.”
Jolene Edwards, the Abraxas School of Ohio principal, said, “Abraxas School of Ohio is blessed to have amazing teachers who always choose to go above and beyond for our students.
“A prime example would be writing grants to provide unique opportunities for our student population. I’m also very grateful for the Richland County Foundation and their continued support to our school through the grant funding.”
The Richland County Foundation is one of the largest private sources of grant making in Richland County and administers over 415 charitable funds established by individuals, families, and businesses.
