Fortunately, no one was harmed in a fire that broke out late Monday morning at a Madison residence, located at 881 Unity Drive off of Ashland Road. Members of the Madison, Mifflin, and Franklin township fire departments and Madison EMS responded to the scene.
Madison Fire Chief David Kissel said that the department received a call that reported heavy smoke coming from the residence. The call was made at 11:34 a.m.
“The first engine in, we had heavy smoke coming from the attic, so we sent a line in upstairs to the attic trying to locate [the fire]. The second line came in, went down into the bedroom and checked it out, and that’s where we found the fire—it was actually in the bedroom,” explained the chief.
“Probably within 10-15 minutes we had the fire knocked down and under control,” he said.
Kissel said that the fire caused heavy smoke damage and heat damage throughout the house. “I would say it’s going to have to have a lot of remodeling done before [the family] can move back in,” he said.
No one was injured in the fire, Kissel said. The homeowners were outside when the fire occurred, he said.
The Red Cross was called to provide assistance to the family, Kissel noted.
The cause of the fire has yet to be determined. “We think we found the cause, but we’re still checking that out,” Kissel said.
