In celebration of Catholic Charities’ 100 years of service in northwest Ohio, Catholic Charities is hosting author Robert Lupton for three events in October in Mansfield.

Lupton’s most recent publication, “Toxic Charity: How Churches and Charities Hurt Those They Help, and How to Reverse It,” will be the basis for his presentations at the following events:

– Do Something Rally: Sunday, Oct. 26, from 6-8 p.m. at St. Peter’s High School Bob Fry Auditorium, 104 W. First St., Mansfield. People of all faiths and ages are welcome to join in an evening of prayer and praise with an inspiring short talk by Lupton. The theme is: “Being the hearts, hands and hope of Jesus while helping our neighbors help themselves.” This event is free and geared toward youth.

-Do Something Workshop: Monday, Oct. 27, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at Ed Pickens’ Cafe on Main, 28 N. Main St., Mansfield. Join professionals, community leaders and others in a conversation regarding the

community’s responsibility to help people help themselves. Lupton will discuss “Individual Betterment vs. Community Development – what role does the community have in helping individuals help themselves?” CEUs will be offered. Registration is due Oct. 10 for a fee of $50 and includes a continental breakfast and lunch. – 100th Anniversary Celebration and Fundraiser: Monday, Oct. 27, 2014, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Ed Pickens’ Café on Main, 28 N. Main St., Mansfield. Lupton will speak on “Catholic Charities – the Next 100 Years: Toxic vs. Transformative Charity.” The fundraising event will include wine and beer tasting featuring local wineries and breweries, hors d’oeuvres, a live auction and a quilt raffle.

Catholic Charities’ goal is to raise $25,000 to support feeding, clothing, sheltering and providing additional assistance to more than 40,000 people of all faiths each year in northwest Ohio. In Richland County, services include H.O.P.E. Food Pantry, Community Emergency Services, guardianship care for the elderly, infant adoption services, jail and prison ministry and disaster relief.

Tickets are $50 per person, and the registration deadline is Oct. 10. A locally made quilt will be raffled off, and raffle tickets are $1 each or six for $5.
