The Galion Tigers hosted a wrestling clinic featuring help from the first Ohio State wrestler to be a three time NCAA wrestling champion on July 27.

Participants of all ages and from all surrounding areas were welcome to attend the Daniel Reyes and Brent Tyrrell GT Summer Wrestling Camp 2014.

The camp had a strong focus on aggressiveness and offensive elements. Sessions honed the wrestlers’ techniques for takedowns and top positions.

Coaches Brent Tyrrell, Jim Wegesin, and Brandon Rumble and parent Daniel Reyes helping oversaw and aided campers for the day. Galion brought in Logan Steiber a three time national college champion for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Stiebler will attempt to become the fourth wrestler in NCAA history to win the national title four times.

The Galion wrestling program is working on expanding opportunities like the summer 2014 camp for local youth. The upcoming fall 2014 camp on Sunday, September 28 will feature help teaching by Reece Humphrey. Humphrey is a three time high school state champion, a two time US Open champion, a two time World Team champion, a seven time greco and freestyle champion, and a two time All-American at Ohio State University.

In addition, the Tigers have officially partnered with OH-WAY to host the 1st Annual Galion Fall Kickoff Open. Taking place on November 16, this will be Galion’s first ever large tournament at the national level. Ages 5-19 are welcome, and it is a round robin format with modified scholastic rules.
