Leona Grogg, 81, of Galion, died Monday, July 14, 2014, at Signature Healthcare, Galion after a long illness.

Leona was born in Cleveland, on June 10, 1933, to the late William and Eliza (Allford) Payne.  She married James M. Grogg, Sr. on March 28, 1953, and he preceded her in death on March 2, 1998.

She was an LPN and did private duty nursing and home health care.  Leona was a member of the Free Methodist Church, Galion. She enjoyed sewing, knitting, crocheting, camping, water skiing, gardening and reading.  She was always willing to help people in need. Leona was a very loving and caring grandmother. 

She is survived by her two sons, William & Donna Grogg, Galion, and James & Lori Grogg, Jr, Galion; her two daughters, Cheryl Lynn Grimes, Galion and Yvonne & Tom Matus, Circleville; her six grandchildren, Dawn & Bart Widder, Haughton, LA, Dean Matus, Bellevue, Tiffany Grimes, Galion, Kacy & Chase Donnelly, Akron, Whitney & Todd Padgett, Oklahoma City, OK, and Brandi Grogg, Galion; her great-grandchildren, Addilynn Padgett, Jackie Widder and Nicole Widder, and her three sisters, Almira Morton, Galion, Sharon Freyman, Galion, and Linda & Jerry McClain, Newburg, IN.

She was preceded in death by her two sisters, Esther Scott and Ruth B. Bernett and her two brothers-in-law, Gene Morton and Lyle Freyman.

Friends may call Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. and for 1 hour prior to the funeral service which will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Galion, with Rev. Joe Stafford officiating.  Burial will follow in Ebeneezer Cemetery, Galion.
