Dorothy Jane Jackson, 86, of Mansfield, passed away Sunday, June 29, 2014, in the presence of her family.

Dorothy was born May 20, 1928 in Cleveland to Walter and Bertha (Eaton) Buck and moved to Mansfield in 1934. She attended elementary school at the Cook Road Woodville School and was a proud graduate of Madison HS Class of 1946. Dorothy lived the majority of her life in Mansfield and most recently at Logan Place.

Dorothy was employed in several secretarial positions throughout her working career. She retired from Mansfield City Schools in 1989 after 14 years of service. Following her retirement, Dorothy became very active in several local organizations. She was instrumental in organizing and leading the Amoy Seniors AARP Chapter #4491 and the “Leisure Ladies” Red Hat Chapter. She enjoyed maintaining her friendships with her Madison HS classmates, serving as their secretary at retirement activities.

Dorothy’s faith in the Lord’s promise of everlasting life, her family, and her friends played important roles throughout her life. Dorothy was a long time member of Clay Memorial Lutheran Church, providing musical selections for church activities with her friend, Barb Lantz. She valued her friendships with her Holy Trinity Lutheran Church family and most recently her Mayflower Congregational Church family, where she became a member on her birthday in 2012.

Dorothy is survived by her son and his wife, Alan Earl and Jill Jackson, and their children, Danny and Kelly, who reside in Puyallup, Washington; nieces and nephews and their families, Betsy (Ed) Rollings, Kathy (Alan) Kapustar, Russ Gottfried, and Bruce (Jane) Gottfried.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; and her sister and brother-in-law, Pat and Andy Gottfried.

Throughout Dorothy’s journey with her illness, several friends and family members provided special comfort for her. Dorothy’s family extends thanks and appreciation to Dr. Dewald and his staff at the Ohio Cancer Clinic and to the staff at Crystal Care Center for their kindness shown to Dorothy during her illness.

A private burial service was conducted by Rev. Dr. Gary Wilson on July 2 in Mansfield Memorial Park.

A memorial service celebrating Dorothy’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Mayflower Congregational Church, 548 N. McElroy Road, Mansfield, OH 44905.

Memorial contributions may be made to Mayflower Congregational Church or to the charity of one’s choice.
