Joyce “Jo” A. Minor, 70, of Greer, died unexpectedly Monday, June 30, 2014 in Knox Community Hospital ER.
Jo was born July 20, 1943 in Central City, KY and was the daughter of the late James M. and Martha E. (Lyles) Harper. She was a resident of the Greer area since 1997, moving from Lorain County where she was a 24-year employee of Ford Motor Company, Avon Lake, retiring in 2002. She was the former District Committeeman for United Autoworkers Local 2000. She was a life member and past president of American Legion Auxiliary Unit 257 of Loudonville, a life member of VFW Auxiliary 8586 of Perrysville, the Eagles Aerie 2275 of Loudonville, Amvets Post 95 and the Moose Lodge both of Mt. Vernon, and the Polish Club of Elyria. Nothing gave her as much enjoyment as her trips to the casinos.
Jo is survived by her husband, Denny Minor, whom she married Jan. 21, 1992; two daughters: Nanette (Brian) Slack of Grafton, and Kathy Balmert of Elyria; one son: Richard “Rick” Minor of Brookpark; three grandchildren: Breanna Peters, Cory Peters, and Denise Walker; and three brothers: Roy (Barbara) Harper of Avon Lake, Bobby (Joann) Harper of Shepherdsville, KY, and Jerry (Karen) Harper of Louisville, KY. She was preceded in death by her parents and her sister, Sue Harper.
A graveside Celebration of Life Service will be held Monday, July 7, at 1 p.m. in Loudonville Cemetery where the American Legion and VFW Auxiliaries will conduct services. There will be no visitation. The family requests contributions be given to the Wounded Warrior Project, 4899 Belfort Road, Suite 300, Jacksonville, FL 32256.
