Ruth Powell Roach, 95, of Loudonville, passed from this life on Saturday, May 10, 2014 at Hospice of Med Central in Mansfield after a short illness. She was born in Loudonville on October 27, 1918 to Clifford L. and Mina (Schneider) Powell and lived there all her life. On November 25, 1937, she married Lester Roach who predeceased her in 1981. A 1936 graduate of Loudonville High School, Ruth was a lifelong congregant of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of Women of Zion. She also was a member of the Eastern Star Chapter 92 of Ashland, the Mohican Area Historical Society, and the Friends of the Loudonville Public Library. She volunteered with the American Red Cross and the Ashland County Chapter of the American Cancer Society. Before retirement in 1980, Ruth worked for 24 years in the accounting department of The Flxible Company.
Ruth and her late husband Lester had three children who survive her: Mary Jean Roach (Ruth Ward) of Delaware, David (Lois) Roach of Flat Rock, NC, and Ruth Ann (Jeffrey) Campbell of Galion; 4 grandchildren: Tim (Penny) Campbell of Mansfield, Andrew Roach and his partner Will Stegall of Atlanta, GA, Chris (Stacy) Campbell of Mansfield, and Jennifer Roach of Atlanta, GA; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter. Ruth Ward’s children, grandchildren, and Sarah Jenkins also considered Ruth their “Grandma”. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her sister Jean Schnittke in 2002, and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 13th in Zion Lutheran Church, Loudonville with Rev. Scott Henderson and Rev. Ginger Pflueger officiating. Burial will follow in the Loudonville Cemetery. Friends may call at the Lindsey Funeral Home in Loudonville from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Monday, May 12th.
