Sunday, May 4, was a big day for a local traveling baseball team, the Ohio Outlaws. This is their first season and they are already making a name for themselves. The team won 5-2 and 11-6 in a double header against the Mid-Ohio Bullets at Northmor High School.

“We are a first year travel team with a highly talented group of area kids that have worked hard all winter and have gotten off to a great 7-3 start to the season. When we play focused, we are a great defensive team,” says head coach Jim Myers.

The Outlaws proved that during the first game. The Bullets had the bases loaded multiple times throughout the game but the Outlaws were still able to hold them to 2 runs.

The Outlaws also had a great day offensively. They were able to score 16 runs between the two games, including a home run hit by Hanif Donaldson.

The Outlaws play in the Central Ohio Youth Baseball League (COYBL), based in the Columbus area. The team was started to give local athletes a chance to compete at a high level of competition at a young age. The team has players from all over Richland County including 3 players from Madison, 2 from Lexington and Galion and one each from Lucas, Clear Fork, Crestline and Ontario. They have three coaches: Jim Myers, Rod Clark and Luke Clark. The league has fundraisers to help cover costs of uniforms, tournament fees, equipment fees, etc. The remaining funding comes from sponsorships and a fee that parents pay.
