Joseph G. “Joe” Dockman, 91, of Ontario passed away Sunday morning, May 4, 2014 at Country Meadows Care Center. He was born August 28, 1922 in Greensboro, Pennsylvania to the late Rose (Novosel) and Joseph Dockman. Joe served his country during WWII in the Army, and participated in the Normandy Invasion. He retired from White Westinghouse Corp. where he worked in the maintenance department as an electrician. During that time, he also worked part-time for Montgomery Ward.

He had a love of travel and would spend six months each year in Texas, enjoying the warm weather, sunshine and golf. Joe was an avid football fan and was quite adept at watching two games at once. A cancer survivor, his determination and zest for life were evident throughout the years.

He is survived by two daughters, Merrirose A. (Phil) Martin of Lexington and Rebecca S. (Steve) Corwin of Asheville, NC; five grandchildren, Samuel and Michael Martin, both of Lexington, Brook Corwin of Chicago, IL, Heart Corwin of Asheville, NC and Forest Corwin of Raleigh, NC; a sister, Bertha Tayler of Galion; a brother, Steve Dockman of Brook Park, OH; special friend, Kathy Gessling of Ontario; long-time friend of 70+ years, Albert Barzanti of Mansfield; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Krawscyzn Dockman; son, Joseph Michael Dockman; and two brothers, John and William Dockman.

Private family services will be held at a later date in Oak Grove Memorial Park. The Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors is privileged to serve the family.
