Cabin location, does it matter?

The simple answer is yes.

Recently, I experienced two different scenarios while cruising. My family took a vacation and due to everyone going we sacrificed our usual balcony cabin to an inside and ocean view cabin to help our overall cost.

When we booked the rooms it was a little late in doing so and the choices were limited. Our cabin was located on the first deck. Right above our cabin was a lounge that had a wonderful jazz group each night, which we loved.

However, the bass and drums reverberated through our ceiling. Location matter Make sure you know what is above you when you book your cabin.  If you are booking ocean view or balcony cabin, be sure to think about the possibility of pools or club areas that could be right above you.

I understand that many clients love the inside cabin option for the cost savings but there are considerations that you have to think about when booking that cabin category. Inside cabins generally have no windows. On some of the newer ships, such as the new Quantum of the Seas with Royal Caribbean Cruise Line they have come out with Virtual Balconies in their inside cabins. Guests will have the ability to turn on a wall/window and see the outside, as if they were in a balcony in real time. Those with trouble with tight spaces may really enjoy the new open feeling in these state of the art cabins.  Disney Cruise line was a leader in this technology.  They have interactive windows in their inside cabins that feature some of the best loved characters of ‘Nemo.”

Another new option that contemporary cruise lines are offering is called a studio cabin. These cabins are for single passengers and avoid the single supplement increase in cost. This new trend is great for those traveling alone and some of the new lines are equipping these rooms with the virtual balconies as well.

Lastly, think about your destination or itinerary. One of the great things about cruising is what is going by as you travel from port to port. For instance, I highly recommend a balcony when cruising in Alaska. There is so much to see and you do not want to miss a minute of it.
