In an effort to raise awareness for heart health, Leadership Unlimited hosted a 5K run and walk on Saturday, dubbed Fashion Dash. The participants were encouraged to sport a red dress to symbolize a healthy heart and to raise awareness on cardiovascular health.
Leadership Unlimited has been hosting this 5K since 2010, when it used to be known in the community as the Red Dress Run. The red color signifies a healthy heart and the proceeds of each race go directly to the Heart Health Association division in Ohio Health MedCentral.
According to Leadership Unlimited Jane Imbody, last year’s 5K attracted nearly 130 people. This year there were 70 participants.
With Key Bank as their main sponsor, they were able to award top placers for men and women. Top overall male and female runners were awarded a medal. But since the race is known for it’s sometimes wacky and fun dress choices, trophies and gift cards were handed to the Best Dressed runners. Also, the first 100 registrants were handed a free t-shirt aimed to raise healthy heart awareness.
