A barn on 153 Orange Street caught fire on Friday afternoon. The smoke was first noticed by Craig Bates, a semi-truck driver who happened to be picking up industrial size logs for Deer Creek Excavating.

“I saw a little bit of smoke so I just called it in,” said Bates.

The call was made around 3:15 p.m. and the Mansfield Fire Department responded. Fire Engine 1 and 6, Rescue Engine 1 responded to the scene.

According to Chief Jim Bishop the fire seemed to have started in some straw. No one was in the barn as it burned, and the fire was put out shortly after the fire department arrived on scene.
