Gayle H. Callahan, 68, Crestline, died Friday, April 4, 2014.
Gayle was born in Crestline on April 17, 1945 to the late Robert Callahan and Olive Cecillia (Skidmore) DeWeese. He married Shirley A. DeWeese and she preceded him in death on January 13, 2000.
He graduated from Crestline High School. Gayle retired in 2007 from Gorman Rupp after over 42 years of service. He was a member of the Diamond Hill Cathedral, Mansfield where he spent many hours volunteering his talents as a handyman. He would volunteer at the church on Saturdays to help wash the dishes at their weekend dinners. He also volunteered to help put pews in local prisons. A wonderful handyman, he passed his knowledge down to his children. Gayle enjoyed woodworking and riding his motorcycle. He was proud of his home.
He is survived by his nine children, Rebecca Callahan of Crestline, Carla Auck of Bucyrus, Henry and Teresa Friley of Johnstown, Candace Straughter of Galion, Robert and Debbie Gore of Newark, Charlotte and Mike Quick of Marion, Quintina and Allan Ferrell of Mansfield, Jim Friley of Bucyrus, and Robert Allen and Angela Austin of Columbus; his 15 grandchildren; his numerous great-grandchildren; his brothers and sisters, Ronald and Elana Callahan of Washington, Judy and Paul Wilson of Alma, Michigan, Nancy Thacker of Columbus, Mary and Jim Krull of West Palm Beach, Florida, Charles and Carol Scott of Galion, George and Kathie Scott of Mansfield, and Johnny Scott of Aiken, South Carolina.
He was preceded in death by his beloved dogs, Gidget, Bridget, Rocky and Buddy.
Friends may call from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the Mark A. Schneider Funeral Home, Crestline. A memorial service will follow at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Chuck Carrier officiating.
