A common stereotype exists that artists are arrogant, pretentious guys who wear berets, smoke fancy cigarettes, and are somehow inaccessible to ordinary people. Another stereotype is the perception that art exhibitions and symphony performances and plays are exclusive high brow events for the wealthy and privileged. The Arts and Culture Sector of the Richland Community Development Group hopes to dispel these stereotypes through their recent survey.

The average Richland County resident might enjoy the arts without even thinking about it sometimes. Whenever someone downloads a song from iTunes, attends a movie, or enjoys live music in a coffee shop, that person is engaging with the arts.

Many children take dance or music lessons, most have a part in a school play at some time, and kids love music. Most people have a creative hobby.  Whether they enjoy quilting, knitting, movies, music, or reading books, ordinary people get joy from the arts in their lives all the time.

The arts are all around us, and the Arts Sector would like to know what ways our community most enjoys to participate in the arts.

The group created this brief survey in order to better plan programs and activities that the community will love. As a reward for taking the survey, every person who participates and chooses to, may be entered in a drawing to win an arts and culture prize basket.

The prizes include 4 tickets to the Mansfield Playhouse, framed art, and other surprises. The drawing will take place on April 9, individuals are encouraged to take the survey before that date for a chance to win.

The survey will only take a few moments and the Arts Sector thanks you in advance for your feedback. Click here to take the survey
