Richard David “Dave” Marles, 86, of Mansfield, died Friday, March 7, 2014 at Mill Creek Nursing Home in Galion. Born July 28, 1927 in Mansfield, he was the son of Charles and May (Lemley) Marles. A veteran of the U.S. Army, Dave retired from the US Postal Service as a letter carrier. He had his model airplane pilot’s license since 1959 and was a member of the US Golf Association. In his free time, Dave enjoyed flying and building radio controlled model airplanes, and gardening, especially vegetables and strawberries.
He is survived by his sons, Matthew Marles of Ontario and William Marles of Norfolk, VA; daughter, Rebecca Callaghan of Crossville, TN; stepsons, Robert (Jane) Kuenkele of Illinois, William (Tina) Kuenkele of Mt. Gilead, and Barry (Tina) Kuenkele of Indiana; nine grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and sister, Joan (Jack) Falk of Mansfield.
Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 39 years, Kathleen Marles.
A memorial service will be held Monday, March 10, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at the Ontario Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 100 S. Lexington-Springmill Rd., Ontario, conducted by Pastor John Dodds. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
